In Memoriam
to a dear friend
and great artist

Rudy Autio
(1926-2007)

I think the most important time in my development as an artist was at the Bray Foundation in Helena where I began to focus my interest in ceramics. It was at the Bray where I made a number of relief sculptures and projects for public buildings where I really began to learn about ceramic art. I also recall fondly the work of Picasso, Moore, Marini, Tamayo, Noguchi and Rivera. There is no question the influence of the abstract expressionists, De Kooning especially, affected my work and left a permanent imprint.
